Job
Summary:
The Child Care Assistant will provide assistance to a child with special needs or autism and will be responsible for assisting children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other special needs in a child care setting.
They will work closely with the lead teacher, therapists, and parents to ensure that each child receives appropriate care and support.
Responsibilities:
Assist children with special needs, particularly those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), in the child care setting.
Work closely with the lead teacher to ensure that each child's individual needs are met.
Provide individualized support and attention to children with special needs, including helping them with daily activities, providing behavioral support, and promoting social interaction.
Work with therapists and other specialists to implement individualized plans for each child, including speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, and behavioral therapy.
Communicate regularly with parents to provide updates on their child's progress and to discuss any concerns or issues that arise.
Maintain a safe and nurturing environment for all children in the child care setting, including monitoring activities and interactions to ensure that all children are treated with respect and dignity.
Participate in staff meetings and training sessions to stay up-to-date on best practices for working with children with special needs.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework in education or related field preferred.
Experience working with children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or other special needs required.
Knowledge of best practices for working with children with special needs, including behavioral support and therapeutic techniques.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with parents, therapists, and other professionals.
Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in helping children with special needs reach their full potential.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a positive and proactive attitude.
