Summary:
Supervises front-line clinicians and staff on one or two inpatient nursing units providing patient care services.
Oversees patient flow throughout the unit in collaboration with the RN House Supervisor and other nursing leadership team members.
Ensures staff provide high quality, accessible, cost-effective care, and patient focused services to members across the continuum, which comply with local, state, and federal requirements.
Implements and maintains clinical standards of care and practice.
Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
Current California RN license required.
BLS and ACLS required.
Two (2) years of relevant clinical nursing experience relevant to given dept.
Knowledge of Nurse Practice Act, The Joint Commission, and other local, state, federal regulations.
Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication skills.
Duties:
Through multi-disciplinary collaboration and prioritization, accountable for proactively driving timely admission, discharge and transfers of patients (incl.
first case on-time start and room turnover), ensuring optimization of admission, length of stay, and discharge processes.
Ensures frontline staff understand plan of care for the shift and work effectively with ancillary teams within the unit to solve and escalate issues, as needed.
Supports the bedside nurse in accessing resources related to care planning, care plan documentation, and engagement of the member, family and patient in the care plan.
Holds employees and contract staff accountable for complying with regulatory requirements and established policies and procedures during their assigned shift.
Understands the operational requirements of Collective Bargaining Agreements and their applications to daily operations, staffing and scheduling, and staff management.
Understands scope of practice for staff.
Uses EHR to manage patient population, using hospital and safety net dashboards and unit reports/lists daily.
Ensures completion of chart reviews to meet regulatory requirements.
Provides increased leadership visibility in Leader Rounding every shift.
Actively engages in real time patient rounding, support, coaching, and mentoring of patient care teams.
Accountable for preparing a staffing plan for the unit and requesting staff during daily PCS staffing calls; validates projected census (admissions and discharges) and ensures appropriate nursing care hours are deployed to deliver patient care hours, within regional recommendations for utilization targets.
Directs the allocation of competent staff against clinical demand in the area of responsibility to ensure appropriate level of member care.
On occasion, asked to provide direct patient care to relieve nurses for breaks or due to staffing shortages on the unit.
Note:
Weekly salary is dependent on experience.
